FAQ

Background

How did Deutsche Post AG become the Registry Operator for the .EPOST gTLD?

Deutsche Post AG submitted an application for the .EPOST gTLD in the context of ICANN’s New gTLD Program in April of 2012. Deutsche Post AG was the only applicant for the .EPOST gTLD.

After careful evaluation of Deutsche Post AG’s application by ICANN, the latter awarded the Registry Agreement for the operation of the .EPOST gTLD to Deutsche Post AG. A copy of this Registry Agreement is available here and on the website of ICANN.

Registration of Domain Names

How can I register a domain name in the .EPOST gTLD?

According to the terms of the Registry Agreement Deutsche Post AG has executed with ICANN, the registration of domain names in the .EPOST gTLD is restricted to Registry Operator (Deutsche Post AG), its Affiliates or Trademark Licensees.

Reference is made to Specification 13 to the Registry Agreement, which states that only Deutsche Post AG, its Affiliates and Licensees are eligible to be registrants of domain names in the TLD and entitled to control the DNS records associated with domain names at any level in the .EPOST gTLD.

If you or your organization qualifies as such, and you would like to register a domain name in the .EPOST gTLD, please refer to the processes that are available on DP DHL’s intranet, available only internally.

Do you have terms and conditions for registering domain names in the .EPOST gTLD?

Yes. These can be consulted and downloaded here. These terms have been drawn up by Deutsche Post AG, and form part of its Registry Agreement with ICANN, which can be consulted on ICANN’s website.

Yes. The Uniform Rapid Suspension and Uniform Dispute Resolution Procedures are available for all gTLDs, including for domain names registered in a so-called “brand-gTLD” like .EPOST.

Please note however, that the remedies that you are seeking must comply with Specification 13 to the Registry Agreement entered into by and between Deutsche Post AG and ICANN. This means that a domain name cannot be transferred to (and subsequently registered in the name of) a party that does not meet the eligibility requirements for registering domain names in the .EPOST gTLD.

Please refer to FAQ “Background - Registration of Domain Names” for more information.

Please also refer to the Section regarding Disputes contained in the .EPOST Domain Name Registration Policies.

Consulting the .EPOST WHOIS database

How can I access the WHOIS database of the .EPOST gTLD?

Please visit whois.nic.EPOST in order to consult the .EPOST WHOIS database.

Are there any restrictions I need to keep in mind when consulting the WHOIS database?

Deutsche Post AG has put in place a number of technical restrictions (such as a CAPTCHA) in order to prevent users from permanently extracting or temporarily transferring of all or a substantial part of the contents of the WHOIS database. These restrictions are available to Deutsche Post AG in accordance with applicable law, and to prevent automatic mass harvesting of WHOIS data.
